A pigmented lesion on your skin is usually brown, black, or blue. The color is due to blood vessels, melanin or from an exogenous source such as a tattoo pigment.

Hormonal variations and life cycle can influence the distribution of color (melanin) in our skin, resulting in the appearance of all kinds of pigmented lesions. These include age spots, moles, freckles, or melasma which is a dark, patchy facial discoloration condition. These spots imply that you suffer from different degrees of damaged skin.

Melasma is an unharmful condition that causes patches of discoloration that are different in nature than the other causes. It may be any brownish (or grayish) blotchy patches of pigment, - a difficult form of pigmentation to treatment. Melasma will most typically appear on the forehead, bridge of the nose, cheeks, and upper lip, often in a unique “mirror” effect where both sides of the face have symmetrical areas of color.

What is unique about this treatment? How does it work?

Alma’s light-based, laser and IPL treatments remove the appearance of spots and skin hyperpigmentation by targeting the melanin in the darkened area and dispersing it. The tiny fragments of the pigment are then cleared by the lymphatic system through a natural process. This results in the clearing of all of the pigmentation layers which in turn reveals even-toned, unblemished skin.

How long do the treatments last?

There is no downtime involved with the procedure. Treatments usually last 20 minutes long and there is no pain involved. You will be able to resume your normal, everyday activities immediately.
